Fall 2015 Camp Delany Star Party Recap

Another Camp Delany has come and gone.  This one was filled with many special memories and several great nights of viewing!  The fall colors were wonderful and the sunny sky was especially welcome!  It did not rain until late Saturday night, which is the best time (if it is going to rain) as we all get a good night’s sleep for the drive home on Sunday!  Wednesday night was okay seeing until about 1:00 in the morning.  Thursday was great early on, but the seeing started going downhill later in the night.  Friday night was a great viewing night.  On that day, we had our friends from Hazen High School show up.  It was so wonderful to see the students so excited about the night sky.  Their teachers were amazed at how easy it was to wake them up at 5:00 AM to get up and see the planets; Jupiter, Mars, Venus and Mercury!  Saturday night ended with a movie for those who wanted to stay inside and a fire.  I opted for the fire and had a wonderful time talking with many friends about what they saw and what they liked the best!  It was a great way to end the weekend.

Of special note, we had several folks finish their Astronomical League observing projects!  Mike and Kerri Thompson both finished their Messier Club and Doug Liebert finished his Double Star Club!   Congratulations to all of you!

We are looking forward to next spring’s Camp Delany Star Party!  It will be May 4th through the 8th.  On the 8th, we will be going our separate ways, however, don’t forget to look to the East on the morning of the 9th as Mercury will be transiting the Sun! More on this later!

Enjoy more photos  here. I would love to have any more photos that other attendees took!  Please send them to me at webmaster@olympicastronomicalsociety.org
